 | ORMD Annual Report on Retail Electric Competition | |
| The Commission's Office of Retail Market Development (ORMD) made its annual filing with the legislature on Retail Electric Competition in Illinois. ORMD reports that there are 88 certified alternative retail electric suppliers (ARES), and 309 licensed agents, brokers and consultants. More than 80% of total electric usage in ComEd and Ameren is being provided by ARES, with more than three million residential customers shopping with an ARES across the state (an increase in both measurements from the previous year). ORMD estimates that residential shopping customers in the ComEd service territory from June 2013 through May 2014 saved approximately $39 million dollars or 0.2 cents per kWh (inclusive of the PEA impact). For the three year period of June 2011 through May 2014, ORMD estimates total savings of over $320 million (inclusive of the PEA impact). The percentage of residential ARES customers in a governmental aggregation program declined to slightly less than 74%, down from 78% last year.
